Rice and Vermicelli

Bilad al-Sham Cuisine

This cuisine is a fluffy and delightful rice and noodle combo that goes nicely with practically any salad especially one with fresh yogurt. Try this meal with cucumber yogurt salad on the side for a filling and cool meal after a hot and tiresome day.

INGREDIENTS

  • 3 cups rice
  • 3/4 cup vermicelli
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt (optional)

PREPARATION

  1. Place rice in a bowl and soak for 20 minuets.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet and sauté vermicelli for 2 minuets, until golden brown.
  3. Drain rice and combine with vermicelli and salt in a medium pot.
  4. Add 3 cups water, cover pot, bring to a boil, and let simmer for 10-15 minuets.
  5. Serve on a large platter.
