Classic Swedish Sausage

Classic Swedish Sausage traditionally made with falukorv which contains pork, I am instead using a mortadella containing chicken, turkey or beef, this one is Turkish. It has to be a sausage with a very mild flavor and the meat has to be very finely ground

INGREDIENTS

  • 400 grams sausage
  • 1/2 apple, wedges
  • 1/2 onion, wedges
  • Tomato paste
  • Harissa, if desired
  • Mustard - I use dijon
  • Cheese, of a nice flavour and one that melts well
  • Water
  • Salt and pepper

PREPARATION

  1. Set oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Cut "slices" in the sausage but make sure you don't cut all the way through! Place sausage in a smeared, ovenproof dish. Place an apple wedge in every other space and onion wedges in the rest. Smear top of sausage with mustard. Grate or slice cheese and sprinkle over sausage. Mix tomato paste and harissa with water and pour over the sausage. If you like, place more onion and apple in the dish as well. Place in oven for 20-30 minutes.
  2. Often served with mashed potatoes. Why not add some chopped parsley and perhaps grated carrots or other vegetables of your choice.
